Liner notes

How much of disappointment belongs to what happened—and how much belongs to the life we decided should have happened?

ON THE WAY follows the pressure to know already, choose correctly and turn every uncertainty into a verdict. Inherited rules give way to harder, kinder questions: Can I want without demanding? Can I make a mistake without making it my identity?

Hope remains, but certainty loosens its grip. Responsibility remains, with room to learn, fall and keep becoming. The ending is still unknown. There is still a next step.

ON THE WAY TEKNOLUST

[Verse 1]

Why does it hurt when nothing was promised? Why does almost feel just like loss? Did the world let me down Or did I draw the finish line Before I ever learned what it would cost?

I know exactly where I should be I know everything I should have done I can turn every maybe into failure Before I’ve even begun

[Pre-Chorus]

Is disappointment self-inflicted? Are my expectations off? Am I measuring the life I’m living Against a life that never was?

[Chorus]

Is expectation the thief of joy? (Is expectation the thief?) If I expect nothing, can nothing disappoint? Maybe I could never lose If I never had to choose If I never gave tomorrow any voice

But is not expecting really happiness? Or just another place to hide? If I never hope for anything Nothing ever has to die

[Verse 2]

Who told me I should know this already? Who decided mistakes meant I failed? Is that really my voice in my head Or the voice of my mother instead Still telling me there’s only one right trail?

How many rules did I inherit That I never stopped to choose? How many times did I call it wisdom When I was only scared to lose?

[Pre-Chorus]

So I quit before rejection I retreat before I fall Build a future out of expectations Then blame the world for building walls

[Chorus]

Is expectation the thief of joy? (Is expectation the thief?) Or is expectation just a choice? Maybe hope was never certainty Maybe wanting doesn’t guarantee That the ending has to happen like I thought

And maybe disappointment isn’t failure Maybe failure isn’t falling down Maybe all the things I didn’t know Were the only way I had to grow

[Bridge]

Grace is room enough to wander Room enough to get it wrong Room to learn from where I’ve fallen Without deciding I don’t belong

No one else can do the work for me No one else can make me whole But I don’t have to know the ending Just to take another road

I am responsible for the work I don’t have to get it right

The first time The next time Every time

[Breakdown]

Expectation said I should already be there

And Grace said You’re allowed to be on the way

And for once I believed myself

[Final Chorus]

Expectation doesn’t steal my joy When I stop giving it my voice I can want without demanding I can fall without collapsing I can hope without pretending I have the proof right here

I don’t need to fear disappointment I don’t need to hide from what might change I can lose and keep becoming I can hurt and still keep loving I can bend without believing that I break

[Outro]

I am not the person I expected I’m the person I have made

Every wrong turn Every question Every chance I was afraid to take

I don’t have to be there already

I’m allowed to be on the way
